All bereaved persons and concerned parties are welcome to meetings and workshops, even if their loved one was not cared for by Iowa Hospice.
Invincible Summer
Returning to Life After Someone You Love Has Died*
This workshop uses photography, design, soothing music, and a comforting voice to help the bereaved work through their grief. Practical advice for people of all ages, including families with children is also provided.
When Mourning Dawns
Living Your Way Fully Through the
Seasons of Your Grief*
(Four-week workshop; pre-registration may be required
depending upon location)
This workshop uses wise quotations and photographs from nature. The pattern of grief is compared to the rhythm of the seasons. Specific suggestions and practical help are offered for working through each of grief’s natural seasons.
How Do I Go On?
Redesigning Your Future After Crisis Has
Changed Your Life*
This workshop follows a five-step process (feel, explore, let go, embrace, and live) for those times when loss is life-changing, if not life-threatening. Participants will be encouraged to refer to their own experiences and develop their own insights.

Holiday Grief Workshops
Holiday Grief workshops are provided in each location in November. November 2008 dates TBA.
Memorial Services
Iowa Hospice provides an Annual Memorial Service in each location. The memorial services are a time when family, friends, and community members come together to remember and honor those who have died in the past year.
Children’s Grief Workshop – Hearts 'n Hooves
Children who have experienced the death of a loved one may not always know how to express their grief or how to work through it. Iowa Hospice now offers a Children’s Grief Workshop to help facilitate the grieving process for children. Iowa Hospice has partnered with Timber Creek Therapies for this annual one-day retreat for children ages 7-12 and 13-17 years of age.
The CGW is a one-day retreat that combines Hospice bereavement counselors, equine specialists, and horses to assist children with the healing process and promote healthy coping skills. The children will be taught strategies to express their grief, reduce stress, and connect with others who have lost a loved one. A screening and application process must be completed prior to participation in the retreat.
